Back South Again with More Projects

A lot of driving. I have forgotten how much driving is involved when on the farm. Everything is far. But I also had to drive up and back twice to Syracuse to pickup/drop off Angie at the airport and a business meeting for Wisdomino in Albany. Yeah it was a lot of driving for me. All and all it was about 4000 miles in three weeks. Early in the morning I decided to check out some auctions (dangerous). I ended up being high bidder on a 2015 New Holland Boomer 33 ( "hours unknown, does not run, may have problems, no key, no battery" ) from the State of Tennessee. I figured I could swing by Nashville and pick it up on the way to Georgia. And indeed I did. It was only a couple of hours extra, maybe 4. But, it was more efficient than going to Georgia and then back and forth to Nashville. Nashville is about 4 hours from Duluth. So I was looking at a 4 hour savings. I picked up a cold-bug. It has been a quiet weekend. Not much fun, not much activity. I hired a guy to fix the dock. I am planning on some fences and things around the property. The goose seems like a loner and a bit mentally ill. We have named him "Buddy". He comes around and is a bit of a pest. We found some Russian ice cream at the Korean store the other day. It was great example that you don't need to travel to explore. Angie was in the UN last week.

I am back from Brazil again. Although my capabilities have grown with Portuguese it is a great incentive to study. This trip we had 3 or 4 stops in the State of Sao Paulo. Always educational and a learning experience. There is a pic of a 1970 vintage sugarcane cutter. Angie was in NY this week.

We have been busy getting furniture. I have decided after a prolonged evaluation period, I don't like IKEA. I certainly don't need a reason, maybe it is the cheap furniture, crowds, waiting, poor (no) service. Maybe it is the non standard vocabulary. I don't like buying furniture at all anyway. But, I can say I did find a few furniture stores close to home that were a true shopping pleasure such as "Bova" and "By Design". Angie and I went to a fundraising dinner for Refugee Support in Atlanta Friday Night. We both had fun and we felt our dollars are making a difference. We also got a copy of "Pete the Cat", Autographed.

I spoke at a professional organization in Atlanta last week. Angie and I took the S2000. It was nice driving around with the top down after dark. We went flying today.

Angie and I have had a quiet week in Duluth. I have been having fun introducing things like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, The Brady Bunch and garden hoses. Life is good!

I finally got a chance to blog. The world cup final is today. Although, I don't normally watch sports, I have been actually following this time. I have business in all the countries in the semi-finals and finals it seems. I flew up to LGA and picked Angie up at JFK. Then we took the Acela train to Boston for the 4th of July. (Don't confuse the picture of the Boston Subway with the Acela Train.) Boston was a total washout from the hurricane effects. We then drove the truck (that my Sister staged in Boston) to the farm and expected to drive back to GA with the trailer and equipment, but I decided the trailer wasn't up to the trip. So, the trip was just with the loaded truck, with mostly radio equipment carefully wrapped in plastic bags and covered with a tarp. I used my aviation GPS on my iPad (foreflight) to measure our progress on the Acela. We hit 129 knots (148.451 mph)(238.908 kph) on two occurrences. Geese friends on lake back home in Duluth.

It has been a good week, they all are. We always need that reminder. Have you ever waken yourself up laughing? I did this past week. Weird! Experience profound irony in your subconscious. Make it a goal! There have been some really good physics discoveries these past few weeks, check them out. I also walked to work this past (round trip) week. It was an extra 50 miles of walking this week. What a great experience. Beyond the great physical exercise, it reminded me of many things. It is a great expansion of thought, exercise, and practicality. It is the only cheaper way of getting to work than my electric car (since I plug if in elsewhere than home). Although my own mobility does require some extra bottled water.
