Summer Starting to End on the Farm

Image
It has been good spending time on the farm. I really had forgotten how quiet and dark it is here. It can actually be a bit unnerving. The leaf doodle bug was put to work in the forest. However, it looks like the car will be going back on the road. We can say it failed field trials, but that would only be partially true. The better utility value at this point is more suited to getting a teenager back and forth from high school. The mycological aspects of the farm did not disappoint. The pics of these shrooms are not photoshopped. The coal stove (very heavy) is loaded on the truck. It will be rebuilt in Georgia if I can save it. Coal stoves are increasingly out of production. When they are gone they are gone. The small wood stove is now in its place. The pic of the red sky in morning was indeed a warning of weather. We had strong storms and tornados in Upstate NY. Although I was travelling much that day in the area, I missed the worst of it.

I finally got a chance to blog. The world cup final is today. Although, I don't normally watch sports, I have been actually following this time. I have business in all the countries in the semi-finals and finals it seems. I flew up to LGA and picked Angie up at JFK. Then we took the Acela train to Boston for the 4th of July. (Don't confuse the picture of the Boston Subway with the Acela Train.) Boston was a total washout from the hurricane effects. We then drove the truck (that my Sister staged in Boston) to the farm and expected to drive back to GA with the trailer and equipment, but I decided the trailer wasn't up to the trip. So, the trip was just with the loaded truck, with mostly radio equipment carefully wrapped in plastic bags and covered with a tarp. I used my aviation GPS on my iPad (foreflight) to measure our progress on the Acela. We hit 129 knots (148.451 mph)(238.908 kph) on two occurrences. Geese friends on lake back home in Duluth.

It has been a good week, they all are. We always need that reminder. Have you ever waken yourself up laughing? I did this past week. Weird! Experience profound irony in your subconscious. Make it a goal! There have been some really good physics discoveries these past few weeks, check them out. I also walked to work this past (round trip) week. It was an extra 50 miles of walking this week. What a great experience. Beyond the great physical exercise, it reminded me of many things. It is a great expansion of thought, exercise, and practicality. It is the only cheaper way of getting to work than my electric car (since I plug if in elsewhere than home). Although my own mobility does require some extra bottled water. Us humans are oafs in our cars Rain is not and has never been a show-stopper We are slobs, discarding stuff on roads Sidewalks are nice Us humans are physical units, not computers If I decide to do a through-hike of the Appalachian trail (in a respectable time), I think I ...

Here is a great jazz tune. If you have ever said, "I don't get jazz". Listen to the following song a few times. Every time I hear it I say the same thing to myself, "I get it!"

Lewis and I flew down to Peachstate GA. (GA2) Sunday for some lunch. We were going to go to the Henderson NC for a fly-in, but the weather up there was a bit dodgey. It was fun. A guy in an RV decided to provide some airshow activity for us. It is a grass strip in fair condition.

Life is good. It not just a catchy phrase. You get out what you put in. The universe is ambivalent and serves as a great retro-reflector. Angie is in Vladivostok. Her Father is recovering from some very significant procedures. It is a trying time, but I expect good things. Prayers in our Church here in Atlanta. My Aunt Sis passed away when I was in Europe. There wasn't enough time for me or my sister to get to the funeral in Maine. It has been yet another strange experience that may not have a decent previous comparison. Let's see how long this URL stays valid: Catherine Johns of NY and Maine I am probably not traveling much in the Month of June, unless, I really need to get away. I make my own adventures. Depending on the weather I am flying with a friend to a fly in in NC. I currently have a very experienced commercial pilot staying with me in Duluth. His insight is good and it all helps. I have been walking to/from work. It is 4.3 miles each way. Although my driving commute ...

I am back from Netherlands and France. I was detained in Amsterdam when I went through immigration on arrival for a little bit for an unpaid speeding ticket. I don't think I have ever talked to a more tolerant police officer, ever. He actually listened. I still need to pay the fine. I couldn't believe I actually found someone with their finger in the dike.

I have been pruning and working in the yard. It is very relaxing.
