Back South Again with More Projects

A lot of driving. I have forgotten how much driving is involved when on the farm. Everything is far. But I also had to drive up and back twice to Syracuse to pickup/drop off Angie at the airport and a business meeting for Wisdomino in Albany. Yeah it was a lot of driving for me. All and all it was about 4000 miles in three weeks. Early in the morning I decided to check out some auctions (dangerous). I ended up being high bidder on a 2015 New Holland Boomer 33 ( "hours unknown, does not run, may have problems, no key, no battery" ) from the State of Tennessee. I figured I could swing by Nashville and pick it up on the way to Georgia. And indeed I did. It was only a couple of hours extra, maybe 4. But, it was more efficient than going to Georgia and then back and forth to Nashville. Nashville is about 4 hours from Duluth. So I was looking at a 4 hour savings. I went to the PDK airshow today. PDK is the second busiest General Aviation airport in the United States following only Teterboro NJ. I don't fly into PDK yet. I will at some point for sure. The weather wasn't very good for an airshow. In fact the weather was beyond my personal minimums for getting out and just flying around, without aerobatics. I also went over to my future house, signed some paperwork, planned and measured some. I have access to the property, which is nice. My reality check today indicates there isn't really that much needed to move in, plumbing mostly. Since it is a foreclosure there were some elements of a "scorched earth" approach to the retreat. The scuttle efforts were primarily in the form of ripping out all the copper plumbing and air conditioner. It is easy for me to fix.

A lot of stuff going on with me this week. I am selling my Mom's Condo in Rochester, NY and I have generally been socializing a lot in the evenings. I have met a lot of new folks. It is amazing what happens when you *try*. Some of the bigger news is that my offer was accepted on a piece of property. This is the same property that I thought got away from me. Weird. Usually, when a property gets a way.. it gets away. So, I will be working to close the deal soon. The house is very convenient to shopping and to work, but is also very serene and "woodsy". It is on a small lake. This may be the most practical house I have ever purchased. Of course, since it is property I am buying, it needs work. Nothing compared to what was done in the past though. It will be fun.

I have a busy social weekend in Georgia. I went on a hike at Red Top Mountain. There are absolutely no shortages of nice places to hike in North Georgia. We had a great time.

I am back in Duluth from La Jolla California. I am working on my 3 by 5 card for the weekend. I didn't get the house I was bidding on. The pic is from downtown La Jolla where all the nice restaurants are. I had a few really good meals. I really like west coast oysters. My colleagues and I gave a presentation to about 135 people. It was fun and I was proud I got them all to laugh.

Tomorrow I will be in California. You see a photo of an escalator. I see a memorable experience. I was halfway coming down this escalator getting stuff out of my pocket and ...SCHreech... the escalator comes to a sudden and violent stop. Broke. Stopped. It was weird. It was a good lesson for me that these things happen. Me and another guy started laughing and I started saying "Help, I am stuck on the escalator!" It was pretty funny.

The falls are nice indeed. I think it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said, (when she first saw Foz de Iguazu was) "Poor Niagara". Indeed, Iquazu is a much better experience than Niagara Falls. It was a weird weekend. One of interesting things was that I made my first arrangements (including hotels) for the visit the Friday I arrived. ----Everything worked out exactly the way it was supposed to. I got to see some pretty fancy chickens.
