Honshu and Okinawa

Image
I am back. I spent 10 days in Japan, 5 days for work on the main island of Honshu and 5 days of solo adventure in Okinawa. Travel is so invigorating dispite the uncomfortableness. Jetlag, anxiety, crowds, and other discomforts aside, it is mind-expanding and rewarding. Work went well. I flew a new airline (Skymark) from Tokyo to Naha. I am always wary of strange discount airlines and all the traps they set. However, I had a great expereince with "Sky". I was actually shocked. Super easy checkin at the airport, no extra fees even with extra luggage. The primary mission in Okinawa was to visit the Peace Park and the suicide cliffs of Okinawa. From what I understand, at the end of WW2 the inhabitants were encouraged to commit suicide rather than surrender to the Americans and get tortured and eaten. Besides other types of suicide, they jumped off the cliffs at the Southern end of the main island. If you have seen the original color footage taken at the time, I am sure you ...

This deer was almost looking to become our new pet as we found it on our walk today. I remembered a great quote today, but I cannot find the woman it is attributed it to. It is something close to "I plan each journey as though I will never return. Therefore if I don't, all will be in order.

I was working in my basement the other day and felt someone looking at me. I turned around and caught this guy spying on me. It was that or he was trying to tell me to clean the window.

We are back from NY again. The drive in the new truck was a lot better than the old truck. Using a combination of Google Maps and Waze we did a good job of navigating the crashes and slow downs, making the decisions to take alternate routes or through the a slowdown. The telemetry on my phone says the trip was a total of 2437 miles. Albeit it took 3 weeks, since we drove up, flew back and then flew up and drove back, again. Every time I make it up to the farm I am always humbled by the property. It takes most of a full-day just to walk the property. Much to do. In Duluth, the normal heat and the extra moisture has yielded growth. Our fig tree in the front yard has good fruit and is just about perfect.

I like this tune. It speaks to me. I am also very grateful I have it at home.

I been working on projects. One of the planes is in for its annual inspection. We found a small crack in the horizontal stabilizer. It is a involved repair to be sure. Lots for me to learn. The video is the procedure we are doing.
