I am back from my most recent roadtrip. I loaded up the Tesla and started letting the hands-off Full Self Drive (FSD) supervised take me to points North. First stopping in a campground in Tennesee and up to Pittsburgh for the CIDM Convex Conference (which was the best conference in years). There was a celebration of the 20 years of DITA XML. I was an earlier adopter. My presentation went well and I semi-stealth launched wisdomino. I demo'd some extra cool software we developed and will be selling in weeks to come. It's truely game changing. Of course, there will be much more than that to come. After that it was on to Franklin, PA. to meet with some colleagues in the mining division and onto the farm stopping in Olean NY for the night. I am pretty sure it was the first time I had driven across the entire Allegany National Forest. I ended up driving through the very dark forest expanse during a night time thunderstorm. My Morning Walks

I was recently reminded about the importance of frequent walks. Its a great multi-dimensional therapy, and it is still free.

This possom startled me the other day on my walk. I was in my zone, mostly looking down and passed just inches away from him. The hissing and pointy sharp teeth convinced me to do a double-step away.

I often visit the many trains that pass through town here in Duluth GA. This particular train is a "milk run". It has about ten cars. It makes its way up from Inman yard in Atlanta to service the many business through this corridor. Many business get their deliveries through trains here. Train runs are not limited to the mega-huge enterprises, inland ports and Amtrak service. These are smallish operations. Some examples include cardboard manufacturing, scrap metal, drywall manufacturing, lumber wholesaling, and cement deliveries for making concrete.

After much discussion and research we have determined that we have recently returned from above the Arctic Circle. It was close however, the arctic circle is not as fixed as we would like to think. I am a bit overwhelmed with work and getting my new house in order. There is only one of me. I do like my current position quite a bit. It is way better than The Raymond Corporation. I am just back from a day trip in Wisconsin. Now that I have the initial salvo of plumbing and electrical work done, I am concentrating on cleaning and organizing. I had some colleagues from Kansas over the other night. That was nice. I expect to do more of that type of entertaining here. Kicking back in the gazebo down by the lake with a Brazilian beer (absolutely not available in the USA) was a great experience. There is electricity in the gazebo and on the dock, but I have to figure out what I need to do to get the lights and what-not working.

I am flying this morning. We are getting off the beaten trail. We are going to Mt Heine on White Island and Williams Cliff on the side of Mt. Erebus. We are trying to determine if we have a found a better radio location at these two points. We are taking GPS, maps, a 900 Meg radio and ice axes. It will make the network simpler if I can prove these spots will work. Cravasses are common near Williams Cliff so we are on high-guard about where we will set the helo down. We may not set down at all. Cravasses are really problematic down here. They are hundreds of feet deep and they are very often covered with snow. Sometimes the snow may be 6 or 10 feet thick and may support equipment for a while. Then one day the equipment breaks through. Ice radar is normally used for traverses.

Life in Northern Atlanta. If you substitute the car for a small airplane in this pic it would hit the national news. I am glad I am flying to stay away from wrecks like this one. Aviation is so much safer. I did a nice emergency engine out (simulation) the other day (required). I picked a great spot. My flight instructor had a good laugh when I told him the engine out field strongly reminded me of landing in Greene NY. I wish I had a pic, but I was busy. Clear the trees, towers, hills, and wires and you have it made. I won't trade any of my sweaty palms (anywhere) for anything.
