I spoke at the LavaCon this week. My presentation was very well received. There were well over 100 folks who chose to attend my presentation. It was good to enjoy some brief moments with a llama as part of the conference. And it was good to meet up with lots of folks I have got to know over the years.
Road Rage Witness as the Season Changes

The migrating birds are just starting to come back. Yes, we are seeing some first signs of spring. It takes a while living here to see Winter in Atlanta. There is definately a winter. The leaves fall. It gets cold. and we are heating not cooling. Heating is about half the cost compared to cooling for a benchmark.
I am splitting my "free time" between remodeling and doing the winter pruning. The Crepe Mytles grew over 8 feet this past year. It gets trimmed off every year and it starts all over again. I used three of my chain saws.
I got stuck in traffic behind a road rager--cut off the car ahead of me, stopped, got out and started screaming. All in heavy rush hour traffic. They both had masks on, not sure about vaccines.

Back on the Farm Again.
I was up on the farm finalizing some new tenants and a new building. I specifically made some time to hike the forest. I definitely have a real regret of not doing exactly that more often. Woods are magical. There is such order in the absolute randomness of nature. I also managed to get some nice sunrise pics from 17,000 Feet. One is over Susquehanna, PA. The other as we are about to cross the Hudson River.
Today was kind of slow. I fixed a bunch of stuff and got soem stuff done but overall it was pretty slow. There is an ice cream machine in the galley named "Frosty Boy". It is a self serve soft ice cream machine that dispenses vanilla ice cream. When Frosty Boy is broken or out of premix the Antarcticans become restless and irritable. It is important to ensure Frosty Boy is functioning. Here is a picture of me on the ham tower the other day. It is only 30 feet. The other picture is of the bowling alley machine. The lanes are really warped and the pins are set by hand. It truely is a museum piece. I heard Brunswick wanted to buy it back.
Maine Coastal Islands
As part of my recent Maine trip we decided to explore a little out on Vinalhaven (Vinyl Haven) Island. There is a ferry that runs out there. I was pleasantly surprised that it isn't totally about tourism out there. I daydreamed about buying a waterfront property and doing fishing and lobstering. The properties I found were somewhat affordable and essentially turn-key fishing bases. I also had to stop and take a couple fan-boy pics of some antique rolling stock. They must get snow up in Maine. I didn't see any in September.
I am packed. I have to get some travel money from the finance office and ask (again) about some reimbursments that have not materialized in 4 months. I didn't know a single person here 4 months ago. I have definately got to know a few folks in the course of this adventure. I have made good contacts. It is hard to decide what to do in the last time here. Should I take more photos? Probably. Should I go work more on the ham radio? Probably. Should I just relax? Probably.
Summer's End - Hopefully.
My sister took a picture of an iceburg near Greenland that looks a little like a cat, our white cat, Jewel. I been using the M998 without doors and the back curtain rolled up. Much better in summer. Redneck A/C. The Moon, Jupiter and Venus in the early Morning, using nothing but my cell phone to take the pic.
