Expidite the expidited

I am headed to the passport office this AM to get a new passport. I didn't have time to do the expidited renewal after getting back from Japan. So I made an special expiditing appointment with the passport folks in Atlanta. I am glad I only have to drive into Atlanta, not fly up to NY or Washington DC. It seems I have had to do some expiditing everytime I have renewed my passport. Passports are good for 10 years. When you get a new passport it is a time to ponder where you will be and what the passport will look like in 10 years. The pic belows shows the wear on my now cancelled passport. it was a 50 page book (the extra pages version) and 46 pages are fully used. Many countries require 3 empty pages to enter their country. So, I got full use of the larger size passport. If you need more pages, you send the passport in and they will "sew-in" more pages. The thickest passport I ever saw was at the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan border. A truck driver I saw had a Uzbekistan passpo...

Yearly Goals

The weather has been nice in Georgia being in the 70s the last week of December. However, the air has been unsettled. Not much flying going on this week.

I am working on my annual personal goals. I did good with last year's goals. Better in some areas than others, but the progress is clear. It is becoming harder to decide what is next-- what do I want? Health should always be a priority although it hasn't always been in the past.

I took on a project at my church. We are moving the thriftshop to a new building about 1000 feet away. It is a great new space. It is satisfying seeing the project come to completion.

My satellite internet is still barely working at home. It will not let me see many sites including Blogger.com. I am blogging from the Wilson Hospital (Binghamton N.Y.) surgical waiting room. Bonnie and I have pretty much been here (and another hospital) since 4 am. It turns out she has some nasty big kidney stones. They are doing an assortment of procedures and contingency procedures. Llama Lying Down Plush Fawna is Walking!! She was outside the llama house this morning. I thought that would be great so we left her out all day. Tonight when we got home she showed us how she can get up and walk about 10 steps or so!! She is definately showing signs of improvement today. Now we have the problem of trying to control the patient and keeping her in bed when she should be in bed. Good problem.

Interesting bit. The following is what you get if you try to get to Mike Angelini's Linkedin profile. Mike passed away earlier this year. This profile handling gives a whole other meaning to the term "information lifecycle". Working on my MS we had a class devoted to the book "Information Ecology". Linkedin probably wanted some money to keep things in perpetuity. Or, this is what they probably call "The family wishes". I find the policy (business rule) that linkedin uses in a case like this is ironic to say the least. There is no shortage of irony in information science.
