I went to Elliot Brack's funeral yesterday. He was a friend. And he was quite a character. He was one of the first people I met outside of work when I moved to Georgia. He was sort of a variation of the main character of Tom Wolfe's "A Man In Full". I used to say that Elliott and I had a 50-50 relationship. He told me what to do and I did it. His 50% was telling me. My 50% was doing it. He was a fixture at my church and involved me in all sorts of things. Including organization of our "Civic Breakfast" where we invited leaders from the community for information and opinions of the community. It goes on and on. I spent this year's birthday traveling alone again. I can't say I like that, but I had some ice cream cake a few days later.

I went to a the CIDM conference in Durham NC. I didn't speak this year, but it was good. There was quite a bit of new stuff. This is a pic of me with George Bina. He has to be one of the most respected people in the XML industry.

The koi fish seem to be wrestling in the pond outside my apartment window. The ducks even get into the fray. Good show to watch while I am drinking morning coffee.

Memorial Day 2026

We have had a dry spring weather-wise this year. But now Mother Nature is making up for it. There was flooding on what we call "The Connector" in Atlanta. The connector is both I 75 and I 85 running through downtown. Needless to say it is a very large artery. The forecast looks like it will be rain for about 10 days. Here is a rare picture with at least a piece of each car in the current fleet. It is too many vehicles. It takes too much attention for all the care and feeding. The Humvee goes on display today. Southern Africa!

I was successful getting to all 8 countries I planned. South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Eswatini (Swaziland), Lesotho, and Namibia. The trip was 14 days with 13 flight segments. The shortest flight was 15 minutes in an ultralight and the longest flight 16+ hours. I rented a 4x4 in Lesotho and another in Namibia. Among many other things in my travels, I walked across the Victoria Falls bridge between Zambia and Zimbabwe and took an ultralight aircraft ride over the same bridge and falls. Namib Desert from the air. Look for my 4x4. Skeleton Coast Heart of Namid desert near uranium mine Maputo, Mozambique-- City Hall and Samora Machel statue Maseru, Lesotho-- I was delayed at the airport leaving Lethoto by about three hours. I had to find a nother hotel in Namibia since I wasn't going to drive after dark. The delay was caused by the Airport being shut down because of an expired battery in the airport fire truck. CNN.com - Shuttle 'wounded' earlier than thought - Mar. 5, 2003 We have the fencing. We have ordered the Run-in (3 sided building) for the llamas. We will have everything we need in about a week and a half. I have to get some feed this weekend. I have an area 11 contest to host this weekend on Saturday. It looks like we have 4 contestants for each contest. It should be fun. I am a lot less nervous for this area contest than I was for the last one. I received my diploma in the mail yesterday. Those things take quite a while. The big decisions are whether to pursue more school, certifications or what. I still have to decide what is next. I may pursue a certicate in "knowledge management" http://www.kmcertification.org/ I may concentrate on the book or the e-commerce website. I have a lot to decide.

The sad news yesterday was that the Liberty Belle B-17 burned up. I toured the plane a few months ago. I took the pics, but not the one on flames. Thank god they had a good place to land and everybody got out. Gasoline! and lots of it.
