One of the things I find interesting in SoCal is the workman waiting outside Home Depot to help you with your projects. They flag you down and wave to you as you leave. I have not seen this behavior any other HD I have been too. And I have been to many in many different states. Illegal immigrants are a significant component to the economy in SoCal. It is expensive here. You have to find desperate people to work at low (affordable) wages. The politicians will pull at heart strings through words like justice, fairness, compassion, but only to get the economic boost for their constituents.

The practice you mention is huge in Washington, DC and northern Va.

Belive me. I am aware of the typos and bad grammer (sic) in my blog posts. It is what is it is. The blog is most likely going to take a different venue. I may move domains and access. It is all about information. I have much to say. I belive I am reaching a new plateau in my blog and my life. We only have one life. Do what you will. There are physical constraints. The computer situation is as always in flux here. The wireless mouse and keyboard arrived for the living room. Now we browse on the 37 inch tube, well almost. The furniture is almost ready for stain and finish. It is going to get an ebony stain and some sort or clear coat. The llamas are well. Douglas is now 27 years old. The other kids (Franklin, Christa) are of course doing very well!

6th Annual Best Practices Conference - Welcome I have not blogged in a while. I have a lot to report. Professor is doing well. The "abnormal structure" turned out to be a bacteria based abnomaly. The pigs are now in boxes. Bonnie and I had a real country breakfast this morning of Bacon (that we raised) and scrambled eggs (that we raised). My flail mower is being delivered tomorrow. I had it modified to attach to a front of a tractor or the rear. It will be soooo easy to have my headphones on in my heated cab mowing my trails with the mower out front. Too cool. The other llamas are well and we really enjoy watching their grace. I was at a conference for Content Development Management in Cape Cod this week. It was worthwhile. I gave a 15 minute presentation as part of a panel for 150 managers or so. It was fun.

http://www.catfastferry.com/the_ship/ Bonnie and I went to Toronto Friday night on the fast ferry. We stayed at the Westin Harbour where on Saturday the World Championship of Public Speaking took place. We came home on the ferry Saturday night. By the time we got to Berkshire it was actually Sunday morning. The ferry was neat. It was clean, fast, smooth and fun. We went business class. We had fun chating and making friends on the way over. They serve food in business class and the leather couches are pretty comfy. I slept on the way back. We didn't have passports with us. It turns out that to travel between Canada and the US you just plain need a passport with you these days. We weren't sure if they were going to let us into Canada. The one little movie of the stern wake of the cat while under way got corrupted. Maybe I need a new camera. Grr. The Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking was worthwhile. Here is the radio shop where I work when I am not out in the field working on radio systems. I live in this building (bldg 210).I share my room with an antenna rigger. The whole floor shares a bathroom. The theme here is largely academic in grounding, the dorms, the science lectures, and the discussions. I suspect a lot of the labor does not recognize it as such.
