I spoke at the LavaCon this week. My presentation was very well received. There were well over 100 folks who chose to attend my presentation. Afterwards we had a supplier meeting in Cartersville and a hike up Pine Mountain. It was good to enjoy some brief moments with a llama as part of the conference. And it was good to meet up with lots of folks I have got to know over the years.

This week is exciting. I have a mission. I am the self-appointed designee to get American Style Potato salad to Russia in time for back yard BBQs. The logistics are challenging, but I think with special attention and a detailed supply chain action plan the effort will pay off. Potato salad is a bit like democracy. It must to be brought in from America. Someone has to do it!

The other thought is that the smell of American Potato Salad will surely draw Edward Snowden out of the "in transit area" in the SVO airport as I pass through. If he does not emerge drawn towards the smell of fresh Walmart potato salad he is surely not in the airport. Proof!

Maine Coastal Islands

As part of my recent Maine trip we decided to explore a little out on Vinalhaven (Vinyl Haven) Island. There is a ferry that runs out there. I was pleasantly surprised that it isn't totally about tourism out there. I daydreamed about buying a waterfront property and doing fishing and lobstering. The properties I found were somewhat affordable and essentially turn-key fishing bases. I also had to stop and take a couple fan-boy pics of some antique rolling stock. They must get snow up in Maine. I didn't see any in September.

I am in LA. I missed my connection. I did manage to get the red-eye out tonight. So it looks like I get to spend another night on a plane. I slept last night. I probably got 4 or 5 hours of sleep. I caught up with a fellow ice person last night for the flight. We were recounting the experience. Our experiences and impressions were very similar. He was saying that he can't describe a lot of it. He went on to say that even looking at his photos, they didn't tell what he was experiencing. We agreed about how strange it was meeting the winter-overs we were taking over for when we got there in October. "They had that weird stare and they talked ok and everything but there was no emotional content to what they were saying". There is a zombie like quality to some people who spend a lot of time on the ice. After a couple of weeks at pole he was medivaced to McMurdo for altitude sickness (there were quite a few this year). Big news. After reviewing three different offers, I have accepted the position of Global Manager of Service Publications with AGCO . I will be moving to Duluth Georgia . I will be traveling quite a bit between Finland, France, Germany, England, Brazil, Argentina and the US. I start in about a month. The picture is of Lake Lanier near Duluth.

I have been too busy to post much lately.There has been a lot of activities at home, at work and inside my head. A couple of new pics of Grace and Jewel. The license plate on I-75 in rush hour made perfect sense to me. Actually it may have been too obvious. I took care of a couple small projects that were bugging me. I recovered and made stands for my Peavey speakers used my vintage McIntosh setup. The speaker stands made a huge acoustic difference. I think I will shorten them by 3 inches, however. That will get the tweeters at exactly ear level. I was pleased when one of my YouTube guys did a special bit on my macs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyPLAUEekPw (advance to 8:22 in the video). I recommisoned my exercise bicycle electrical generator. I am powering my work laptop computer, but I was dissatified on the setup and I am piecing together a much better power supply.
