Expidite the expidited

I am headed to the passport office this AM to get a new passport. I didn't have time to do the expidited renewal after getting back from Japan. So I made an special expiditing appointment with the passport folks in Atlanta. I am glad I only have to drive into Atlanta, not fly up to NY or Washington DC. It seems I have had to do some expiditing everytime I have renewed my passport. Passports are good for 10 years. When you get a new passport it is a time to ponder where you will be and what the passport will look like in 10 years. The pic belows shows the wear on my now cancelled passport. it was a 50 page book (the extra pages version) and 46 pages are fully used. Many countries require 3 empty pages to enter their country. So, I got full use of the larger size passport. If you need more pages, you send the passport in and they will "sew-in" more pages. The thickest passport I ever saw was at the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan border. A truck driver I saw had a Uzbekistan passpo...

Things have been hectic. I was up in NY most of this week. The weather absolutely stunk. It stunk so bad there was record flooding in the Binghamton/Owego areas. Despite the flooding we went to a couple of awesome outdoor dinning events in Williamson and Endicott NY. It was great to see some old friends and be around familiar people and family. I spend so much time traveling and working it was a good thing. The weather was too crappy to go flying.

We saw lots and lots of different mushrooms out in the woods. The beaver dam was really getting some of the flood too. Interestingly, there was little mud in the water back there in nature. The mud erosion happens in the developed areas. Time in the woods was great. I bought a nice electric wood splitter for DJ. That will keep her busy. I tried to catch up on farm tasks, but I can really only get to the really important ones or the enjoyable ones. I did a few of both.

Saturday I go flying back here in Atlanta.

I am off to Texas for most of this week.

Bonnie and I have pretty much been here (and another hospital) since 4 am. It turns out she has some nasty big kidney stones. They are doing an assortment of procedures and contingency procedures. Today is Saturday. This is the day the station celebrates Thanksgiving. Since I did not reserve a seating slot because I was out of town I asked what I was supposed to do. I was told to attend the 7:00 PM seating. I will meet up with a co-worker at the 7:00 PM seating since he just got back into town after 10 days at WAIS (West Antarctica Ice Sheet) deep field camp. The day after he got back to McMurdo he went up on top of a new repeater site mountain called Mt. Aztec. Everything keeps moving around here, especially the Comms guys. The experience out at Taylor Dome was something worthy of deep reflection. It was more harsh than I originally expected. I am surprised a little that I didn't expect it to be as harsh as it was, but it was. The camp was not totally organized as it might have been (definition of a camp I suppose). Llama Lying Down Plush Fawna is Walking!! She was outside the llama house this morning. I thought that would be great so we left her out all day. Tonight when we got home she showed us how she can get up and walk about 10 steps or so!! She is definately showing signs of improvement today. Now we have the problem of trying to control the patient and keeping her in bed when she should be in bed. Good problem.
