The Nissan Leaf on the Farm

With tribute to USDA and other government furnished information of the post war advice converting Model-Ts to tractors --"Doodle Bugs". I towed the resurrected rear-ended 2013 Nissan Leaf up to Berkshire, NY from Duluth, GA. It is now in field trials as a farm machine in Upstate NY. Despite the lack of current ground clearance it is performing well in dirt and mud. There has been a lot of activity lately. Spring gets that way every year. I need to get up in the air this week. I took possession of my Mom's rocking chair. The story goes that the rocker has been in the family and my ancestors brought it over on the Mayflower. Anyway, It is very old and has had lots or repairs over the years. It is an interesting design and looking at it makes me feel comfortable. Sometimes "stuff" can do that. Although, "stuff" doesn't often do it for me anymore.

Things have been busy. I think though that things are always busy and not busy at the same time. It is often how you view it. I had a pleasant experience a while back. The power went off for several hours in the middle of the night. The house stayed warm and the grandfather clock still chimed. The way I noticed the power was off was because the clock radio was blinking. I may have to get a wind-up alarm. We are going to look at an old water mill this weekend. We looked at it years ago. It is for sale now. The following pic is a different old water mill I discovered a few years back. For people who are not looking, it can be very difficult to appreciate what they are. Most of them are not being saved. They are slowly but surely going away.

California has some surprises for me. 1.) The driving style is very compatible with mine, fast, no stops, no waiting at lights. 2.) People are very friendly and treat each other as individuals. 3.) Some things are not as expensive as you may think. (Fresh food, Cars, Hotels, Car rentals). Here are some pics from walking around the apartment complex.

The Nissan Leaf Gets a New Rear Axle

Well, I finally have a salvage title for the 2013 Nissan LEAF (Actually I dont have the title yet, but I think they mail it to me. We are far from settled with the insurance company for sure. It has been six months since Angie was rear ended. The following chart shows a very sad and disturbing trend. Insurance companies aren't paying out. It should be criminal. I went shopping for a new rear axle so I can get the car driving again. The rear ended axle was so bent, the car couldn't move. The new one with no connecting bits was over a thousand dollars. The cheapest used ones I could find on ebay were over 500 dollars. I finally scored at a local used parts place for 95 dollars (removed) and with associated bits such as bearings, bushings, parts of the brakes. It took me a concentrated day with cancelled and moved meetings to get the axle replaced and the car running again. The accomplishment felt good.
