Summer brings new friends

Summer is here. I have the AC on occasionally, except for the zoom room, which the AC is on all the time I am in there. Since we had so much rain awhile back, the mosquitos are unbearable. I called for air support from a pest killer company. June brings new fawns in this area. We have two new ones in the back yard, learning about the world. There was a nice Pitts Special that showed up at the EAA 690 breakfast this past week. I picked up another traffic control device. I will add an appropriate relay and sell to someone with a man-cave or bar. Wisdomino is certainly keeping me busy. I am a professional networker now. A lot to juggle.

Fall in the Atlanta area is very nice. Clear crisp days in the 60s and 70s. Today is a perfect day for flying, but I have a cold that has been messing up my sinuses. So no flying. The last thing I need is to have a dizzy spell when I am in the plane.

We went on a hike yesterday in one of the many confederate army memorial parks in the region. This time it was at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

Solon NY Water Mill

I went and looked at the Solon Pond Mill. I was mistaken last time when I was up there in 2000. It was Summer and everything was overgrown. The mill is about an 1/8 mile from the building I thought might have been the mill. The mill is in rough shape. But everything is still there. I couldn't get underneath to see if the turbine was in good shape. I had heard that it was buried in muck. I suspect it is there, but probably in rough shape as well. It is a combination grist and saw mill, and could be restored to do exactly that. I am going to pass. I was thinking it would make a great homesite however. There is 3.9 acres (a lot for a mill) and you could build a nice house that looked period and work on getting an awesome water powered workshop out back. There is a planner, and it looks like a jig saw and I bet a few other pieces of woodworking equipment in there. All the shafting looks good. If I haven't mentioned it, I am working for Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine California. Its a fantastic company and a great place to work. AGCO decided to outsource my global team. I am (and was) dead set against it. It made no realistic business sense. I have moved on. I have been doing some consulting as well. They say you pay for the beautiful weather in Southern California. You pay straight up with dollars for housing, gas and other things. But on the other side of the deal the weather is so nice (even compared to Florida in the Winter) you forget it is Winter and there are blizzards raging in familiar places. It really is that nice. I bought another Nissan Leaf. We have Fish East and Fish West. This is a picture of Fish West while I was parked scoping out another place to charge it up. My work provides free fast changing stations. The battery isn't that good on Fish West. So I am trying to figure out a cheap way for replacement. Maybe there isn't one.

Everything is collectable. I have a small fruit label collection started a few years ago. I found this website that is pretty much amazing serving up the art and science of collecting fruit labels. I have several labels not listed on the website. Fruit labels (starting in the "P" section).

I found an interesting yellow Mushroom tonight while I was out back fixing a hydraulic line on the tractor. It looks like a Amanita Muscaria, but I am not totally sure. I guess that is the nature of shrooms, not ever being totally sure. There is faith involved. We sure have a huge variety of mushrooms. They get more unusual the more you pay attention to them.
