Carbon Monoxide!?

Weird. The smoke alarm went off, not incredibly odd when I am using the fireplace, but it wasn't the smoke detector. It was the CO alarm. I was totally surprised. It had never gone off as long as I have had one, over many many years. Yep, after resetting it a few times. It was getting a reading over 200 ppm CO. When I took it downstairs I got a reading near 300 ppm. I started getting light headed at this point. After thinking maybe the furnace heat exchanger failed and puzzling around a bit I figured out what happened. As part of the huge winter storm that recently covered almost half of the US, we lost our electricity. So, being well prepared, I rolled out the generator and started doing what I normally do. The generator (although it was completely outside) was creating CO to get in the house. Using the fireplace draft (and possibly other leaks) the whole house created a vacuum around the seal of the basement garage door. After the CO got into the house the forced air heat...

I have been finishing up the front of the barn. Jeff helped me hang the upper door. I got my low voltage remote switching relay in the mail yesterday for the light. It is coming together. Bonnie made a fall wreath to hang on the upper door. It opens in so we can easily change the wreath depending on the season.

The llamas are well. Current animal count is five llamas, six chickens and that's it. We will be interviewing cats this week. "So what are your plans say 4 years from now? Do you think catching mice will be interesting to you?"

I sold my old honda Motorcycle. I hadn't started it in about 6 years. It was a 1971 model. The phone has been ringing off the hook. I must have priced it too low at 100 bucks.

The satellite internet access at home has been up and down at home. It is really getting on my nerves. The POP3 service hasn't worked in a week.

I have been keeping in touch with friends from Antarctica and I am involved in a couple of projects with them. It is a special club. The first flight of the season to the ice will be soon, and then the main-body flights start in September. The toasty winter-overs will get to go home!

I had a great flying lesson last night. I hit a new plateau. I mentioned to my instructor that I must be getting something out of the lesson since my mouth was getting really dry. It is a matter of practice. I can do this. More takeoffs and landings, more practice around the patch. I am so much more comfortable than I was originally. I feel so much more in control of the craft. I need to get better at anticipating what the plane will do though. I have to stay ahead of the plane as they say.
