Carbon Monoxide!?

Weird The smoke alarm went off, not incredibly odd when I am using the fireplace, but it wasn't the smoke detector. It was the CO alarm. I was totally surprised. It had never gone off as long as I have had one, over many many years. Yep, after resetting it a few times. It was getting a reading over 200 ppm CO. When I took it downstairs I got a reading near 300 ppm. I started getting light headed at this point. After thinking maybe the furnace heat exchanger failed and puzzling around a bit I figured oout what happened. As part of the huge winter storm that recently covered almost half of the US, we lost our electricity. So, being well prepared I rolled out the generator and started doing what I normally do. The generator (although it was completely outside) was creating CO to get in the house. Using the fireplace (and possibly other leaks) the whole house created a vacuum around the seal of the basement garage door. After the CO got into the house the forced air heating eff...

If I haven't mentioned it, I am working for Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine California. Its a fantastic company and a great place to work. AGCO decided to outsource my global team. I am (and was) dead set against it. It made no realistic business sense. I have moved on. I have been doing some consulting as well.

They say you pay for the beautiful weather in Southern California. You pay straight up with dollars for housing, gas and other things.
But on the other side of the deal the weather is so nice (even compared to Florida in the Winter) you forget it is Winter and there are blizzards raging in familiar places. It really is that nice.

I bought another Nissan Leaf. We have Fish East and Fish West. This is a picture of Fish West while I was parked scoping out another place to charge it up. My work provides free fast changing stations. The battery isn't that good on Fish West. So I am trying to figure out a cheap way for replacement. Maybe there isn't one.

LavaCon 2025

I spoke at the LavaCon this week. My presentation was very well received. There were well over 100 folks who chose to attend my presentation. Afterwards we had a supplier meeting in Cartersville and a hike up Pine Mountain. https://www.lavacon.org/ It was good to enjoy some brief moments with a llama as part of the conference. And it was good to meet up with lots of folks I have got to know over the years.

Brain "warshing"

I prefer to pronounce brainwashing with an Ohio or American Midland Dialect. "Warsh". Its a catchy pronounciation. Step one of any effective brainwashing is to eliminate any notion or self-evidence of brainwashing. "I am absolutely sure I am not brainwashed. I am an American. I believe in the individual. I believe that all of my ideas and thoughts are my own." Those thoughts are a good starting place. The fact is that you, as a human, are a herding animal. It is a lesson that I found in my time in Antarctica and watching my own herding animals. "No man is an island" --John Donne (1572–1631). Is also a good start. We are all affected by our instincts. Tribalism being one of them. Many of us have lost a lot of our instincts. When we loose enough we probably fall somewhere into the vast ontology and categories of mental illness. Welcome to tribal.com WOW. If you ever doubted accupunture .. let me set you straight.. Holy Sh*t. I got home just in time to see Dr Wendy and Dr Jim allowing Fawna to stand up. Fawna was so excited.. She kissed me and blew in my nose. It definately blew my mind. She was able to walk a couple of steps even. She thought she was going to go outside and do the llamadance with her brothers but we stopped her. Eventually, she lost strength and had to cush. I could feel a tear welling up. She saved her life for a while longer. Now I have the accupuncture needles and the knowledge of where to put the needles. I get to try it next. What a trip this has been.

DJ and I climbed Stone Mountain today. Stone Mountain is an "impordent" part of Atlanta life. In any culture high places often have spiritual significance. No different in the modern-day growth-region of Central/Northern Georgia. It is an interesting walk. Stone mountain is a largely monolithic mass of granite. I had become familiar with the obvious out-crop just like the skyline of downtown Atlanta. I see it from the cockpit of my C-172 as well as the very-top overpass of "Spaghetti Junction". The walk gets steeper as you get nearer to the top. My altimeter watch indicated that we scaled a 70 story building, albeit in nature. I saw no one turn back. That also seems to be part of the culture. People as everywhere around here are openly conversive with strangers. It is a regular walk for exercisers and urbanites that need to do something different. It is close to Duluth and Atlanta. It took about 30 minutes by car to get there from Duluth.
